Loetz glass – A statuesque Art Nouveau compote with a threaded iridescent glass bowl with green and blue and gold flashes and a crimped-edged bowl. The bowl is decorated in red or purple threads. A pure Art Nouveau design. The gilded base is a statue of the “ideal” woman of the period. It is not bronze, rather of a white metal. She is dressed in a swirling and pooling robe. Large flowers at her waist are easily mistaken for butterflies.
I do not overemphasize the qualities of an item. This Loetz compote is nothing less than magnificent. I am completely taken with it.
