Vintage Chinese, Blanc De Chine Porcelain of a Boy, his Buffalo, and Flute
Finely detailed with wonderful expanses of glaze and one or two small flecks of cobalt. Beautiful condition with minute loss on the very tip of one of the boy’s head ornaments, and a small separation at a mold seam, original to its creation and nearly invisible. I include close, magnified images.
An animation film of 1963 brings to life a child’s folk tale and this sculpture captures the same tale of a boy, his magical flute, and his beloved buffalo. The Cowherd’s Flute tells the story of a young cow herder who is searching for his buffalo across mountains and valleys.
