Georgian Silver Cruet Set, Samuel Whitford II, 1808, 2 Bottles, 2 Lidded Jars

SKU: S1904-002 Category:

A fine example of a London, 1808, Georgian silver cruet set. Samuel Whitford II hallmarks on lids, column,  and base. Very architectural, with a heavy molded oval base. Fluted columns on paw feet raise the silver rings that hold the crystal bottles in place. A fine reeded foliate post supports the oval ring handle, complementing the base. Bold finials on jars.

A hand fashioned, sterling silver cruet set with two cut crystal bottles with matching toppers, and two sterling lidded jars. Despite my helpful assistant’s photos, the lids do sit appropriately flat on the jars.  The faceted crystal bottles and jars are cut in a diamond pattern on a raised foot that adds significantly to the elegant stature of each piece. Silver value at spot – excluding the weight of the crystal – is $354.00.  Are we in a Depression? I never imagined that I would ever sell Georgian silver this cheap. Heirs need to wake up and realize the value of their parent’s art. Time to collect!

Dimensions: All measurements are approximate:  10.5 “ tall, 9” wide, 7.5” deep.

Date: 1808

Maker: Samuel Whitford II.

Origin: London

Condition: Wonderful condition, 210 years old and patina. The foliate element of the central  handle leans noticeably -would easily be set right. There is a flea bite on the rim of one bottle and a small chip on the rim of another. One jar has a chip on the base, the other jar has a tiny unnoticeable flea bite that was ground smooth. None of these imperfections disturbs the eye. Please see photos – enlarge them for great details – as they are an integral part of the condition report and please ask any questions that you have about the item so that we can satisfy you.
