Lesbo’s Table Desk Lamp by Angelo Mangiarotti for Artemide
Italian hand-blown Murano glass lamp designed by Angelo Mangiarotti in 1967. This iconic table lamp makes a bold mid-century design statement in any room. Angelo Mangiarotti was an acclaimed architect who designed furniture and lighting as well.
Dimensions: Approximate dimensions in inches are 18.75 diameter x 14.25 tall.
Date: Circa 1967
Origin: Estate of a NYC commercial designer who worked from the 50s into the 90s. The lamp was manufactured in Italy.
Condition: The glass is in excellent shape. If there are scratches they are minuscule. The glass is guaranteed to be 100% stable. At the base of the glass globe – in other words, the bottom edge – there are several chips where it sits on an aluminum socket, as designed. Every lamp I have seen sits on the aluminum base without washers. The chips are invisible when the lamp is assembled. Common acrylic dots would put a stop to it. The aluminum base shows normal wear from age.
Provenance: The Manhattan designer from whose estate we purchased this lamp (also, many other modern objects, lights, furniture, and art) had a habit of recuperating the better pieces when his well-heeled clientele wanted a re-do.
About Us: Southern Picker Antiques in Darien, GA. is open by appointment. My partner, John and I, for 40+ consecutive years, have never lost our enthusiasm for inspiring objects and art. Without art, there would be a whole lot of days I’d just stay in bed!
